Raymond Poot
Faculty and Associates
Raymond Poot studied biochemistry at the University of Leiden and received his PhD for studies elucidating the folding kinetics and function of RNA hairpins in the MS2 bacteriophage and in 16S ribosomal RNA. His post-doctoral training period was at the Marie Curie Research Institute in Oxted, United Kingdom, where he purified and characterized the first mammalian ISWI chromatin remodeling complexes and established their role in chromatin remodeling during DNA replication. He started his own lab at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre in London and in 2005 moved to the Department of Cell Biology at the Erasmus MC after receiving a VIDI award from the NWO. His specialized expertise includes protein purification from stem cells and chromatin analysis.
His research interest and the focus of his lab is on the identifying and characterizing the transcription factors and chromatin factors that control the identity of embryonic stem cells and neural stem cells. The long term goal it to provide insight into the factors that affect the onset of and progression towards neural disease.
