The Dept. of Immunology contains five research units, as shown below.
About the Dept. of Immunology
The department - headed by Prof. Dr. R (Rob) Benner - focuses on transfer (education), application (patient care) and increase (research) of the knowledge about the human immune system.
Unit Immune Regulation
The Unit Immune Regulation - headed by Prof. Dr. J.D. (Jon) Laman - investigates the area of chronic inflammatory disease.
Unit Autoimmune Diseases
This research unit - headed by Prof. Dr. H.A. (Hemmo) Drexhage - investigates the immune pathogenesis of several autoimmune diseases, such as thyroid autoimmune disease, type-1 diabetes, Sjögren's disease and systemic sclerosis.
Unit Molecular immunology
The Unit - headed by Prof. Dr. J.J.M. (Jacques) van Dongen - performs research activities concerning leukemia and immunodeficiency diseases.
Unit Clinical Immunology
The Unit Clinical Immunology - headed by Prof. Dr. P.M. (Martin) van Hagen - takes care of the policlinical facility related to immunology. This facility is part of the Dept. of Internal Medicine.
Unit Medical Immunology
Prof. Dr. H. (Herbert) Hooijkaas heads the Unit Medical Immunology and the Immunodiagnostic Laboratory.
Jeffrey Modell Centrum
Binnen het Erasmus MC werken de afdelingen Kinder-geneeskunde, Interne Geneeskunde en Immunologie samen in de zorg voor patiënten met een afweerstoornis.
