Dr. R.A. de Man
Robert A. de Man (1957) studied medicine and economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. During his studies he was active in race rowing and coaching. He obtained his PhD in Rotterdam under the guidance of Solko Schalm by writing a thesis on the combination of antiviral and immune modulating therapy in chronic hepatitis B. Subsequently he was trained as an internist and gastroenterologist. In 1995 he was appointed staff member of the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Assistant professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. In 2006 he was appointed Associate professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
As a principal investigator dr. de Man coordinated several studies into the use of nucleoside and nucleotide analogues in chronic hepatitis B infection. He has a keen interest in the detection and treatment of nucleoside analogue resistance. His research focuses on the consequences of decompensated liver disease, liver tumours and viral hepatitis. He is co-promoter of 10 PhD students.
Dr. de Man is keenly interested in education and training. Since 2000 het is subsidiary responsible for the training program in gastroenterology at Erasmus MC, since 2007 he is principal responsible for this program. He is a member of the concilium MDL, member of the MSRC, chairman of the nationwide MDL education committee.
He is also interested in the organisation of medical care and quality systems in health care. He is medical coordinator of the clinical department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, subsidiary head of the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, NIAZ auditor, chairman of the committee in quality audits in Gastroenterology, member of the internal audit committee Erasmus MC, and member of the advisory board patient care Erasmus MC.
