Hand assessment
Introduction
One of the main topics of our research is the development, validation and application of new and improved instruments to assess hand function. For example, we have developed the Rotterdam Intrinsic Hand Myometer to fulfill the need for direct measurement of strength of the intrinsic hand muscles. In addition, we have developed the Pollexograph as a simple tool to measure palmar abduction of the thumb as well as a more high-tech instrumented assessment of the complete space of movement of the thumb.
In addition to these measurements at the functional level, we work together with other researchers within our department on the development and validation of instruments to measure hand function at the activity level to describe how patients use their hands in activities of daily life.
Instructional video's
We have made a number of instructional video's on how we believe that a number of important hand function measurements need to be performed. In addition to an instructional purpose, we would be very interested in any feedback on the video's since we realize that these measurement could most certainly be optimized. Feel free to email us any of your comments or add you comments to the movies on YouTube for other to see.
