The department of Radiology has defined three spearheads within its research: MRI, CT and interventional radiology. All research projects within the department deal with at least one of these spearheads. Moreover, research is divided into three programs, each of which participates in one or more Research Schools (NIHES, COEUR). These three programs and their subprograms are:
- Development of Acquisition and Processing Techniques for Diagnostic Imaging
(EMC NIHES-03-30-03 )
High Resolution and Molecular Imaging
Biomedical Image Processing
- Implementation of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging Technology
(EMC NIHES-03-30-01 and EMC COEUR-03-43-03)
- Assessment of Diagnostic and Interventional Technology
(EMC NIHES-03-30-02)
Information about the assessment of diagnostic and interventional technology
We are also involved in relatively high-risk research that falls outside of these programs, although it does deal with at least one of the three spearheads. The quality of research that takes place at the Erasmus MC Department of Radiology is recognized internationally. But that is not enough for us. We want to continue to grow. The division into spearheads and programs is a good basis for us to further develop our scientific research. This development must primarily focus on attracting financing from what are known in Holland as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th budget sources, these being government funding, grants from private foundations, and industry support, respectively. The primary focuses of our research policy are:
- Concentration on a small number of spearheads
- Employment of a fixed structure
- Diversification of funding sources
