Working at the Department

Doing research in life sciences at the Cell Biology Department of the Erasmus Medical Centre (MC) in Rotterdam.

Doing research in life sciences at the Cell Biology Department of the Erasmus Medical Centre (MC) in Rotterdam has many advantages. Research at the department has a high scientific standard, provides an international environment (50% of the scientists are of foreign nationality) and has an excellent educational programme for PhD students . ErasmusMC is part of Erasmus university, which was recently ranked 1st university of the Netherlands and 14th in Europe in Biomedicine .

Rotterdam is an international city, has one of the largest harbours in the world, and has all-night, less than an hour train-ride, connections to other Dutch cities such as Amsterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. Importantly, Rotterdam is the cheapest for housing of the major Dutch cities (starting from 400 euro/ month for a decent furbished apartment). Combined with the high scientific salaries in the Netherlands (PhD students earn 1300-1700 Euros/month, after taxes, in their 1st-4th year), this enables a comfortable standard of living.

The Department is located in the downtown area of rotterdam and is a 10 minute walk from the main shopping centers, bars etc. It can be reached easily by public transport
