In Praise of Medicine 2018
The theme for the 2018 presentation was ‘Disease X’. Leading researchers Jeremy Farrar, Marion Koopmans, and Ron Fouchier took us into the world of new infectious diseases outbreaks and showed us how we can prepare for these outbreaks.
The past ten years have taught us that new infectious diseases continue to develop and spread. They can spread worldwide, as has been shown by Zika, Ebola, MERS, and bird flu viruses. The World Health Organization (WHO) is committed to new collaborative efforts between experts in the fields of human, animal, and ecosystem health in order to be better prepared for future outbreaks of ‘Disease X’.
