About

Introduction

I’m working both as a physical therapist and as a researcher at the department of Orthopedics – Unit Physical Therapy at the Erasmus MC. My research aims concerning optimizing physical fitness and function of patients with limb girdle diseases and patients after an ICU admission.

Education and career

After obtaining my bachelor degree in physiotherapy at the Hanze Hogeschool and master degree Human Movement Sciences at the University of Groningen I have worked as a physical therapist at several institutes in Groningen and Rotterdam.

In 2002 I started at the unit Physical Therapy and in 2009 I joined the Center for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases of the Erasmus MC University Medical Center in Rotterdam. In 2019 I obtained my PhD degree at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (Thesis: Physiotherapy Management in Adults with Pompe Disease).

Teaching activities

I provide a lecture on training in neuromuscular diseases for the Minor “Rehabilitation & Sports” (Bachelor Medicine, Erasmus University).
