Sniffing against Covid-19

Scientists have developed a virus inhibitor that blocks SARS-CoV-2 spread between ferrets. It can be developed into a nasal spray that may also protect people against the coronavirus. "As long as we are not sure whether vaccines will rid us of the virus, we should also focus on other means."

Researchers of the Erasmus MC and Innatoss Laboratories will develop a specific and sensitive test to determine exposure to SARS-CoV-2. They focus on the T cells, while existing tests are mainly based on the detection of antibodies.

One Health PACT wants dead mosquitoes for research

In the middle of winter, mosquitoes can be a nuisance. To gain insight into which species of mosquitoes these are, where they are active, what their biting behavior is and whether they can carry pathogens, researchers at Wageningen University – part of the One Health PACT consortium coordinated by professor Marion Koopmans, Head of the Department of Viroscience Erasmus MC - are calling on the public to send in dead mosquitoes. This can be done from February 16 to March 16 after registration via Muggenradar.nl.
