The teaching activities

The teaching activities of the department are of a wide variety: in the bachelor programme we teach the medical students the fundamental issues of bioethics.

Plenary courses and discussing in small working groups focus on the themes that students have to be familiar with as future doctors, such as euthanasia, human research, enhancement, public health, justice and health care. The examinations are varied and include essays, participation in working groups and work for a portfolio.

There is a minor programme open to students with different backgrounds that provides an in depth analysis of different bioethical issues.
Also the department is involved in the education of physicians in different stages of their specialization. This involves one day courses for around 15 to 20 students. On the basis of cases brought forward by the students, ethical reflection is practiced.

Finally special courses are developed for nurses and special courses are given on scientific integrity aimed at PhD students.
