Shared Facilities

Innovative, novel tools and technology are one of the main drivers of new discoveries in the molecular life sciences. The Erasmus MC has centralized these technologies in several specialized centers. The Department of Molecular Genetics has access to these facilities.

ProteomicsThe Erasmus MC Proteomics Center provides mass spectrometry based proteomics services. Expertise is focused on the characterization of protein complexes ('interactomics'), the analysis of protein post-translational modifications in relation to their biochemical roles and on the analysis of (sub)cellular proteomes and the dynamics thereof. The key technology in our lab is quantitative mass spectrometry (nanoLC-MS/MS) based proteomics (SILAC, TMT/iTRAQ, 18O, dimethylation and label free approaches). The Erasmus MC proteomics Center operates several mass spectrometers (Q Exactive (Thermo); LTQ-Orbitrap (Thermo) plus ETD; LTQ-Orbitrap (Thermo); LTQ linear ion trap (Thermo); Q-ToF Xevo (Waters); Triple Quad Xevo (Waters); Orbitrap Fusion Tribrid).

The Erasmus Center for Biomics provides applications and services using Next Generation Sequencing technology operating Illumina HiSeq2000, HiSeq2500 and MiSeq sequencing platforms. Our NGS pipelines cover genetic analyses such as genome & exome sequencing and mutation & variant analyses and epigenetic analyses including RNA sequencing & expression analyses, ChIP sequencing and Chromatin Conformation Capture sequencing & analyses.

Breast cancer sample

Via the Erasmus MC applied  Optical Imaging Centre, we have access to the latest microscopy technology and expertise, including 4Pi microscopy for high optical resolution, 2-photon microscopy, and several confocal microscopes, especially adapted for different aspects of FRAP, FLIP and FRET technology.

In our mouse transgenics facility, we use the latest techniques to generate mouse (conditional) knock-outs and knock-ins and derive (ES) cell lines and other cells from mice. Moreover, the experimental animal center (EDC) houses experimental animals following the latest standards.

The Applied Molecular Imaging Erasmus MC (AMIE) provides a platform for scientists to study complex biological systems in vivo (e.g. mice) using state-of-the-art imaging technology and molecular imaging assays. It is equipped with molecular and optical imaging, ultrasound and MRI, CT, SPECT and PET scanners.
