About

Introduction

The main goal of my research is to dissect the atherosclerotic cap composition in relation to mechanical properties and cap failure mode.
I will make use of tissue engineering concepts to mimic the composition and mechanical behavior of human caps.
Specifically, I will focus on the role of microcalcifications in the atherosclerotic cap and the effect on cap mechanical properties and failure mode, by encorporating these calcifications in the tissue engineered cap model.
It is anticipated that this knowledge will result in the discovery of imaging biomarkers for the identification of patients at risk of stroke.

Also part of the Bone Tissue Engineering Lab in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
