Tami Zhang, Anna Mykytyn and Tim Breugem from Viroscience, together with Bastian Bedaux Knoppen from the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), joined forces to form team ViroGenesis and successfully participated in the Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge 2026.
The team focuses on the production of clinically relevant, GMP‑grade viruses using human airway organoids—an innovative approach that contributes to reducing animal testing while advancing translational virology.
During an intensive 10‑week training programme, ViroGenesis strengthened both its scientific and commercial strategy, refined its business plan, and competed alongside four other high‑quality teams. Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive second place in the competition, earning strong recognition and highly positive feedback from investors, key opinion leaders, and fellow participants.
In addition to the team achievement, individual members were also honoured. Anna Mykytyn won the Public Pitch Award at the Proefdiervrij event 2026, receiving a €1,000 research prize. Tami Zhang was awarded Best Pitch during the TTO‑organised Pitching Masterclass, earning a €1,000 valorisation prize.
