Waiting times at Erasmus MC
On this page, you can find the waiting times for an outpatient clinic visit or treatment at Erasmus MC.
We update these waiting times every two weeks. There are no waiting times for emergency care. Patients who need emergency help will always receive care immediately.
Please note: The waiting times are estimates. The actual waiting time depends on your situation, health, and personal wishes. No rights can be derived from these waiting times.

What do the waiting times mean?
-
Outpatient clinic waiting times
This is the estimated time between the referral by your general practitioner or specialist and your first visit to Erasmus MC.
-
Treatment waiting times
This is the estimated time between your first appointment and the start of your treatment. The treatment waiting time is also called the turnaround time.
Where to go in case of questions?
-
If you think the waiting time is too long, contact your health insurer. They can help you find care faster at another hospital. This is called waiting list mediation.
-
If you have questions about the waiting time, contact the relevant department directly.

Maximum acceptable waiting time
Hospitals and health insurers have made agreements about the maximum waiting time. This is called the ‘Treeknorm’. The maximum waiting time is:
-
4 weeks for a first appointment or diagnostic test
-
7 weeks for a treatment
Why do we publish waiting times?
All hospitals must publish their waiting times. This is required by the Dutch Healthcare Authority, based on the regulation “Verplichte publicatie wachttijden somatische zorg” . The Dutch Healthcare Authority also decides which treatments we must show waiting times for.
