About us

ArtEra: Platform for Science, Art, and Education is a public space in Erasmus MC for interdisciplinary collaboration and conversation. At its heart is a dialogue between scientists, artists, and future generations. Building on the biomedical and transdisciplinary research conducted at Erasmus MC, ArtEra aims to make scientific and healthcare knowledge more accessible through first educational programs and second art exhibitions

At ArtEra, we seek to learn, reflect, engage, and be curious about biomedical science and the fundamental aspects of what it means to be human. By blending scientific and artistic perspectives and practices, we demonstrate how these fields inform and enrich each other, helping to connect any subject to the discipline of life.

Summer School

Every summer, ArtEra selects fifteen fellows to gather for a three-day summer program at Erasmus MC, exploring biomedical, healthcare, and societal issues through collaboration with researchers, doctors, and artists. The program nurtures interdisciplinary discussion and reflection and includes lectures, workshops, excursions and artist talks.

Keep an eye out for our socials or newsletter for the annual open call for the summer school.

Exhibition

The exhibition at Erasmus MC showcases newly commissioned works by both international and local artists, each chosen to participate in the summer school. These works often invite interaction or offer playful explorations, based on the knowledge and expertise the artists have gained throughout the educational program.

The exhibition is open to the public on weekdays and admission is free.

Location: EC-2

Lof der Geneeskunst

Each year, ArtEra participates in the annual public event Lof der Geneeskunst (In Praise of Medicine), hosted by Erasmus MC at de Doelen. The theme of the Summer School aligns with this event, providing a platform for artists and fellows to showcase their works in progress and engage with the scientific community.
