About

Introduction

As a child, I was taking mechanical toys apart to see how they worked. I never lost this curiosity and the inner workings of life fascinate me. My work focuses on the intricate regulation of ion and water transport in gastrointestinal tissues, in health and disease, and the development of novel therapies for diseases characterized by a dysregulation of these pathways, such as infectious diarrhea and cystic fibrosis.

Education and career

Studied Biology at the Radboud University, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. PhD at the same institute. (Thesis on the molecular mechanisms underlying calcium and magnesium transport in intestinal and renal epithelia.)
Postdoctoral training at the Delft University of Technology and Department of Biochemistry of the Erasmus MC.
