About K. (Koen) Bolhuis, MD, PhD

Introduction

I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist and assistant professor at the department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry/Psychology of the Erasmus Medical Centre Rotterdam. At this department, I have obtained my PhD in 2019 with honours (cum laude) on my thesis titled “On Psychotic Phenomena and Unruliness: studies on the Child Risk for Severe Mental Illness”. My research focuses on early risk and neurodevelopment of severe mental health problems using large population-based cohorts.

In the last couple of years, I have collaborated with the Generation R Study, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Harvard Medical School and the American University of Beirut Medical Center in Lebanon. I am a president of the board of the LOA foundation - which works on decreasing health disparities for migrants in the Netherlands and abroad, and editor-in-chief at De Jonge Psychiater, a clinical-academic platform for dissemination of new psychiatric research outcomes. At the Erasmus MC, my research work focuses on examining gene-environment interplay on mental health, in particular psychosis, mood, and neurodevelopmental vulnerabilities.
