About L.A.A. (Lucia) Giannini MD
Introduction
My PhD research focuses on obtaining better diagnostic markers and measures of disease progression in frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a young-onset form of dementia. My work comprises brain tissue analyses, looking at different neuropathological substrates of FTD postmortem, as well as translational studies investigating disease biomarkers in blood and/or cerebrospinal fluid and with neuroimaging. Using these techniques, we are particularly interested in studying markers of neuroinflammation, with the hypothesis that neuroinflammation is an important mechanism contributing to (early) disease pathophysiology in FTD.
