About dr. ir. C.M. (Chanmi) Kim

Introduction

Chanmi Kim is a postdoctoral scientific researcher in the Consultation Room 2030 flagship program, which is the Convergence research consortium between Erasmus MC, TU Delft, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. She works within the Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) research line, with a focus on optimizing remote care for palliative head and neck cancer patients. Taking a patient‑centric and co‑creation approach, she explores and designs technology‑mediated care interventions to provide personalized and compassionate care, ultimately enhancing the quality of life of patients and their families.

Chanmi earned her Ph.D. with her dissertation titled “Towards Healing through Digital Nature in Critical Care and Beyond,” a collaboration between the University of Twente and Philips Research. In this work, she proposed a vision for transforming ICUs into healing environments and developed concepts such as personalized virtual nature ambient experiences and AI‑enabled art therapy.

Education and career

Chanmi earned her M.Sc. degree with distinction, Cum Laude, for her thesis focusing mood-driven approach to enhance user experience at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology, and later worked as a research engineer at Safran Group.
