About

Introduction

My background is in mechanical engineering. In close collaboration with clinical experts and commercial partners, I investigate assistive devices and training environments for individuals with gait disorders. A special focus is on exploring minimalistic and unconventional concepts to support human gait and balance, such as wearable gyroscopic actuators.

Field(s) of expertise

Modeling and control of bipedal locomotion, robotics, dynamics, compliant actuation, assistive devices.

Education and career

I received my Dipl.-Ing. degree in Mechanical Engineering (with honors) from RWTH Aachen University in 2004, and my Dr.-Ing. from the Technische Universität München in 2009. From 2008 to 2011, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the SMS Lab at ETH Zürich. From 2011 to 2012, I worked at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi as an assistant professor, and I joined TU Delft in 2012 in that same function. Since 2017, I am a full professor at TU Delft. In 2019, I was also awarded a honorary professorship at the Department for Rehabilitation Medicine at Erasmus MC.
