Introduction

I take the lead in the craniofacial research line, which involves research projects on all relevant fields such as brain anomalies and functions, social and psychological issues, vision and hearing, breathing and feeding, oral health, (genetic) causes for these disorders, treatment outcome and patient reported outcome.

  • Craniofacial research.
  • Genetic studies using next sequencing.
  • Brain imaging, such as DTI and ASL.
  • 3D-photogrammetry and big data analysis.
  • Sleep studies and sleep quality.

  • 1999 - 2005: Training plastic surgery.
  • 200: Fellowship craniofacial surgery.
  • 2011: Professor in craniofacial anomalies.
  • 2016: Head of department Plastic Surgery.

Over 140 peer reviewed papers, mainly on craniofacial topics.

Teaching activities

  • In house teaching for students, residents, and nurses.
  • National and international: invited lectures on craniofacial surgery.
  • Research group of 12 PhD students.
  • Supervised 12 thesis on craniofacial topics.

  • Coordinator European Reference Network CRANIO.
  • (vice)president of the 24 European Reference Networks.
  • Chariman of Dutch guideline on craniosynostosis.

A total amount of over 3.5 million euro's in grants has been obtained

  • Price for best clinical paper in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery 2016.
  • Price for best clinical paper in the journal Journal of Craniofacial Surgery 2010.
  • Euro Ass of Plastic Surgeons young plastic surgeon scholarship 2005.
