PhD Programme Radiotherapy

A PhD programme lasts 24–48 months, during which you develop into an independent researcher. You conduct original research that results in a dissertation, which you defend in order to obtain the doctoral degree.

About us

Overview

The PhD programme within the Department of Radiotherapy offers a multidisciplinary research environment where technology, (bio)medicine and oncology come together. PhD candidates work on a wide range of topics, from pre‑clinical radiobiology to the clinical implementation of new radiation techniques.

The department typically hosts more than 20 active PhD students, supervised by a team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists and technical researchers

Contents

During the PhD programme, you develop the research skills required to work as an independent scientist. You learn how to design research studies, conduct experiments, analyse data and publish your findings.

There is also room for personal and professional development through training offered by the Erasmus MC Graduate School.

You will be able to design, conduct and translate research into clinical innovations. The programme concludes with the completion and public defence of your dissertation, after which you obtain the title of Doctor (Dr.) / PhD.

Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, together with LUMC and Delft University of Technology, is also actively involved in HollandPTC, a treatment center for proton therapy.

The PhD programme in Radiotherapy is a full‑time research track of 24–48 months. During this period, you work on your own research project.
