About W.H. (Wendy) Oldenmenger, PhD

I started my research based on my clinical experiences. Patients’ pain management was often inadequate due to both professional- and patient related barriers. I set up and performed several studies that resulted in my PhD thesis in 2012. My postdoctoral research build upon the results of these studies.

I am a registered nurse and health scientist. I started my clinical career as a specialist pain nurse in a cancer centre that is part of the Erasmus University Medical Centre (MC) in the Netherlands. I am passionate about cancer care with a focus on symptom management and palliative care.
I currently work as an Assistant Professor in Pain and Palliative Care at the Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, where I am also the coordinator of (haemato-)oncology nursing research. My research focuses on person-centred care for people with cancer and their families, with the aim of helping them to function as well as possible in their own environment.

I have served as a board member of the National Cancer Nursing Society, the Executive Board of the European Oncology Nursing Society and the European Cancer Organization. Currently, I am co-chair of the ECO Workforce Network and I am co-founder of the Cancer Nursing Fund.

Author of approximately 120 publications, of which 67 peer-reviewed international publications. Pubmed
