On Friday, May 29, 2026, ‘A Room Neighboring the Planet’ opens at ArtEra in the new Education Center. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between scientific researchers, artists and young people during the ArtEra Summer School in August, which focused on ‘Healthy planet, healthy human’, the theme of Lof der Geneeskunst 2025.
Nature and our health are closely connected. To begin with, because we as humans are part of living nature, something crises such as the Covid pandemic painfully remind us of. Now that the health of the planet is increasingly under pressure, we are also experiencing the consequences close to home. We must take into account not only new infectious diseases, but also heat stress, sunburn and allergies.
Versatile relationship
In the exhibition ‘A Room Neighboring the Planet’, Erasmus MC researchers, together with artists, students and young professionals, explore the multifaceted relationships between healthcare and ‘planetary health’. The result consists of five art installations that amaze, inspire and provoke thought in the visitor.
Air quality
Photographer Lisa Meijer plays with images of natural landscapes that are often found in a hospital as a contribution to a healing environment. Artist Louis Braddock Clarck draws attention to air quality as a primary condition for breathing with lung images in which inhaled minerals can be seen.
Hospital room
Philosopher and artist Moosje M Goosen, who herself has undergone a double lung transplant, shows how her hospital room transforms into her living room and studio. Animaspace, an art project by Angelina Kozhevnikova, raises the question whether soft shapes and a human approach can make medical equipment more empathetic. Artist and physician Twan Lugten directs the visitor’s gaze to the iconic building of the Erasmus MC research tower on which nature exerts its influence.
The exhibition ‘A Room Neighboring the Planet’ can be seen from May 29 through October 1, 2026 at ArtEra in the new Education Center (Fd-2). All employees and students of Erasmus MC are warmly invited to the opening on Friday, May 29 at 4:30 PM. If you would like to attend, please register here.
