About our Department

Our research

With our research and teaching activities we aim to optimize physical therapy for children and adults, by developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions and valorizing knowledge and innovations. We translate scientific findings into evidence-based practices.

Previous research of the department covers the following topics:

  • Long-term morbidity in children with severe congenital foregut anomalies
  • Physiotherapy Management in Adults with Pompe Disease
  • Anatomical congenital anomalies (long-term effects on exercise capacity and motor function)
  • Optimization and assessment of airway clearance in children with cystic fibrosis
  • Motor Performance following Chemotherapy for Childhood Cancer
  • Partial Weight Bearing: Long-term monitoring of load in patients with a total hip arthroplasty during postoperative recovery

Current research of the department covers the following topics:

  • The effects of passive mobilisation on muscle contractures in patients with neurological conditions: a systematic review
  • Validation of an activity monitoring system for postures, movements and step detection in hospital patients (IMPAcT-project)
  • Telefysio - Evaluatie gebruiksvriendelijkheid en daadwerkelijk gebruik (Telefysio-project)
