About L.E.M. (Leontien) Bruinaars-Dijks

Introduction

I began working as a research nurse in the Sports Medicine department on January 1, 2026, on the ASPIRE study Sports medicine is a new field for me, but I like that its goal is to enable everyone to exercise and participate in sports at an appropriate level to stay healthy and fit. That certainly appeals to me. I love sports and enjoy getting enough exercise every day.
Prior to becoming a research nurse, I worked as a diabetes nurse in various hospitals. In recent years, I have worked on a number of studies at Amsterdam UMC investigating the treatment of the duodenum in type 2 diabetes.

Current research project

The ASPIRE study is investigating whether corticosteroid injections, in addition to standard exercise therapy, can reduce pain, improve movement, and enable a faster return to sports and daily activities for people with long-term Achilles tendon issues.
