About F.C.A. (Floor) Koelewijn

Introduction

I graduated in Medicine in September 2023. After gaining clinical experience as resident not in training at the department of Orthopedics in Gouda, I started a PhD at the department of Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at the Erasmus MC in 2025. My PhD project focuses on optimizing treatment strategies for patients with prosthetic joint infections (PJI), a serious complication in orthopedic surgery associated with significant morbidity and complex multidisciplinary management. Within this research, I particularly focus on improving antimicrobial treatment strategies, with an emphasis on the safety of reducing the duration of intravenous antibiotic therapy and evaluating antibiotic-loaded bone cement. Thereby, we aim to improve both treatment approaches and outcomes for patients facing this serious complication.
