About T. (Tamana) Meihandoest
Introduction
Tamana Meihandoest holds a bachelor in Health Sciences and a master in Epidemiology, graduating in 2021 from Maastricht University. During her master’s program, she completed an internship at the University Hospital in Bern, Switzerland. Since 2024, she has been working as a junior researcher at the department of General Practice at Erasmus MC Rotterdam.
Her current research focuses on patients with chronic lower back pain (LBP). For a subgroup of chronic LBP patients, there may be a promising antibiotic treatment available. In some patients, their back pain may be explained by a bacterial infection in the vertebrae, caused by a bacterium. This infection leads to bone oedema visible on MRI scans, identified as Modic changes, type 1 (MC1). Tamana aims to investigate the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of antibiotic treatment with Amoxicillin compared to a placebo in patients with chronic LBP and MC1.
