About Dr. T. (Tessa) Nelemans
As a postdoctoral researcher at the Viroscience department, I work on characterizing flavivirus replication in biologically relevant cells such as skin cells and neurons. At the moment, we are mainly using different cell culture models representing the central nervous system to study mechanisms of neuroinvasion by flaviviruses such as West Nile virus and Usutu virus. In addition, I am trying to better understand what causes the difference in neuropathogenicity between these viruses.
