About D. (Dylan) van der Waal, PhD Student

Introduction

My name is Dylan van der Waal and my aim with my research is to identify brain features that co-segregate with sex in autism. I will use advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging methods profiting from both large-n power and high precision to characterize the sex dependent brain differences in humans. Using large, population-based data (Generation R) will allow us investigate the correlation between structural brain changes over development, autistic traits and sensorimotor difficulties, particularly in the context of sex differences. Understanding the morphological features associated with sex differences will allow for the development of better diagnostic tools, and a better understanding and possibly improved societal perception of autism.
