Lights for Sophia

September 6, 2018

Elementary schools and clubs will again be able to join in Sophia’s Lights Walk this year, which will be taking place in December.

Help for children

The lantern walk was first held last year as a new activity for the annual fundraising campaign Lichtjes voor Sophia. More than 13,000 elementary school pupils participated in the walk in 2017. The walk is part of the annual Lights campaign, in which you can buy a light in the hospital’s Christmas tree. The walk can be held in your own hometown and on a day of choice in December, to show support for all the children in Sophia Children’s Hospital.
“In one word - amazing! There was a great atmosphere during the walk and it raised a substantial amount for Sophia”
- Sharda Chotkoe, teacher at Paus Joannes school in Rotterdam

Signing up

Schools and clubs that wish to participate can sign up until 1 October by sending an email to cseijkens@vriendensophia.nl, stating the number of children that wish to join in. The walk is free of charge: the lanterns are sponsored.

App as a glimmer of light

The money raised by the campaign will be used to develop an App, which the children at Sophia Children’s Hospital will be able to use as a kind of diary. The App will also include a number of challenging assignments that have been developed by scientists, children, and game designers as a distraction for the children and to teach them how to deal with their emotions. They can also use the App to ask for help, if necessary.
