Role of fibrin formation and fibrin degradation in hemostasis and thrombosis

The Rijken laboratory is interested in the hemostatic system and focuses on fibrin clot structure and fibrin clot degradation (fibrinolysis). The final aim is to further elucidate the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of bleeding and thrombosis.

Research questions are studied by using protein chemistry, often in combination with various hemostatic tests. Pathophysiological relevance for bleeding or thrombosis is evaluated in different patient populations.
