Quality assurance and Qualicor Europe

Quality assurance and Qualicor Europe

As one of our patients, you are keen to be reassured that you are receiving the best possible care. We maintain the highest possible standards of patient care and safety, and regularly perform our own internal audits. However, external accreditation is also immensely important.

Qualicor Europe accreditation

Qualicor Europe inspects the Erasmus MC on a regular basis to ensure that we meet their high quality standards. We were last inspected by Qualicor Europe in September 2016, when a team of auditors (highly experienced members of staff from other healthcare institutions) visited us. They checked whether working procedures and methods were being properly followed, and looked for example at:

  • the way in which drugs are administered;
  • the way in which medical equipment is handled.

The audit team concluded that our quality had greatly improved and that we had adopted a highly effective system of quality assurance.

As a result of these findings, we retained our accreditation. You can therefore rest assured that we will provide you with care that meets all the relevant quality requirements. The current accreditation certificate has been extended until March 1, 2022. A subsequent audit visit will take place in October 2021.

Qualicor Europe accreditation is an added incentive for us to further refine our quality assurance policy. Our overriding objective is to provide our patients with the best possible care.

Our own quality audits

We also regularly conduct our own internal audits, including all-round audits in which specially trained staff examine a particular department in accordance with Qualicor Europe standards. In other words, in addition to the accreditation audit of the organisation as a whole, individual departments also work continually to raise the standard of their services.

Healthcare quality insights

How do you know whether a hospital provides high-quality care? Which hospital is best for a specific type of treatment? In order to give consumers more information about the quality of healthcare, Dutch hospitals have joined forces to create a website known as Ziekenhuischeck (‘hospital check’).

The ‘hospital check’ website shows the results for each individual hospital and also allows you to compare hospitals with each other.
