Erasmus MC researcher Michiel van Gent receives a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions grant for his research on herpes viruses. The grant will allow him to conduct two years of research. Most people carry herpes viruses. Symptoms range from a harmless cold sore to a, though very rare, meningitis. The majority get no symptoms at all. In them, the virus sleeps, hidden away in nerve cells. Sometimes it does reappear, for example at a later age or due to stress. Michiel van Gent wants to know how this works.
