A new technique gives Rotterdam geneticists rapid insights into the corona epidemic
Two days after the first confirmed infection of Covid-19 was reported in our country on 27 February, researchers at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam already had the complete genetic sequence of the first two 'Dutch' variants of the new coronavirus in their hands. This genetic information immediately gave an important clue to epidemiologists: the two SARS-CoV-2 viruses came from different introductions from abroad.
The fact that the research got under way so quickly had everything to do with good preparation, says geneticist Bas Oude Munnink of Erasmus MC.
