On Monday, October 4, 2021, the Irispenning was presented to Marion Koopmans during the Evening of Science & Society by acting Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven.
Marion Koopmans received the prize for excellent science communication. The jury states that the virologist articulates complex issues to the public in an unambiguous, patient and informative manner. She does not shy away from "tricky points" and the jury appreciates how she, also on social media, enters into the debate and "knows how to normalize unsalted opinions time and again and how to bring them back to the sober, scientific facts.
