One pandemic is not yet gone or the next is rattling at the gate. In China, in recent years several pig farmers and slaughterhouse employees have been infected with a new, potentially dangerous variant of the flu.
Chines researchers describing the virus are warning, this could be the prelude to a global pandemic. This is indeed a worrying variant, says professor of virology Ron Fouchier (Erasmus MC). It has all the characteristics of a virus that will come high on the list of threatening viruses from the World Health Organization.
