About H. (Hamed) Abbasi PhD

Introduction

I am a doctor of science in medicine (Dr. sc. med.) with expertise in biophotonics. I firmly believe that the untapped potential of optical imaging to enhance cancer surgery is far greater than currently realized. Driven by the goal of translating my research into practical clinical applications, I am committed to my ambition of providing surgeons with essential diagnostic information during surgery, enabling them to make informed decisions that save more lives.

I obtained a magna cum laude PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Basel in Switzerland (2020). I have a technical background and a strong affinity for medicine. I gained experience in various optical imaging techniques by working in both academia and industry. Over the past several years, I have worked at the crossroads of technical and clinical specialties, learned to be a communicator and bridge-builder, and developed several innovative solutions to address unmet clinical needs in (oncological) surgery. Currently, I’m the principal investigator of the FLARE project.
