Neurobiology of Mood & Psychotic Disorders

Leverages neuroscience and genomics towards an understanding of the pathophysiology of psychiatric illness.

About our research group/lab

Our research

This research program focuses on advancing the pathophysiological understanding and treatment of mood and psychotic disorders, in terms of both clinical pathophysiology and fundamental cellular mechanisms.

Our consistent approach has been to participate in collaborative research programs both within the Erasmus MC and (inter)nationally, with a shared goal to discover novel clinical treatments. This allows clinicians and clinical researchers to work side-by-side with neuroscientists, geneticists and epidemiologists to study mental illnesses from their genetic basis to behavioural manifestations.

We are keen to leverage the rapid technological achievements in human genetics, pluripotent stem cell modelling and genome editing. These achievements help to make significant advances in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness using a precision medicine approach.
