About

Introduction

Hongchen Li is a PhD candidate in the Therapeutic Ultrasound Contrast Agent Group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus MC. He is working on his PhD thesis under supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Klazina Kooiman and Professor Dr. Antonius (Ton) F.W. van der Steen, also advised by Professor Nico de Jong and Dr. Martin Verweij.

He works on the ERC-funded ‘BUBBLE CURE’ project which focuses on ultrasound-activated microbubbles for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac-device related bacterial biofilm infections. His main topic is the experimental and numerical investigation of the interaction between ultrasound-activated contrast agents and the biofilm to maximize imaging and therapeutic outcome.

Field(s) of expertise

  • Ultrasound contrast agent (Microbubble and nanodroplet)
  • Bubble dynamics
  • Sonobactericide
  • Fluid Mechanics

Education and career

Hongchen Li started with the Bachelor degree in Engineering Mechanics at Hohai University, Nanjing, P.R.China. After successfully completing his studies in 2017, he moved to Beijing, P.R.China for the Master program on Fluid Mechanics at the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His Master thesis is about ‘Bubble dynamics and interfacial responses constrained by complex boundaries’. In 2020, Hongchen Li joined the Therapeutic Ultrasound Contrast Agent group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus MC.
