TTO helps to make these new developments available to the general public. We do this by sharply defining and protecting the finding and by assisting in the negotiations with interested parties. This has been nicely worded by Robbert Dijkgraaf (former president of the KNAW): “Researchers often are not satisfied with mere knowledge and understanding – many also want to make their findings available to society. Thus, they publish articles, give lectures and interviews, write books, contribute to documentaries, advise governments, chase patents and copyrights and establish companies to make commercial exploitation possible. These activities are referred to as ‘knowledge valorization’.”
