Virologist dr. ing Sander Herfst of Erasmus MC has been awarded a Vici grant of 1.5 million euros for research into the transmissibility of respiratory viruses.
Regularly, humans are infected by new respiratory viruses from the animal kingdom. In a few cases, these viruses become transmissible from person to person and a pandemic occurs.
