Risk-oriented large-scale-testing throughout Lansingerland

January 21, 2021

All residents of the municipality of Lansingerland (from the age of two) are called upon to be tested for the corona virus. By conducting large-scale testing, the GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond and Erasmus MC want to gain a better insight into the spread of the corona virus and the British variant.

At the same time, it is important that residents who are tested positive stay at home. In order to slow down the spread of the corona virus. Following on from the earlier outbreak study among schools in Bergschenhoek, large-scale testing is a next step in this study. Lansingerland is the first municipality in the Netherlands to be asked to participate in such a large-scale outbreak investigation "risk-based large-scale testing".

The large-scale testing of all residents of Lansingerland is aimed at acting where we see risks and thus getting closer to the virus. The reason for the investigation is the outbreak at a primary school in Bergschenhoek and the research results from surrounding schools. The data from England shows that the new British variant of the virus is probably much more contagious. With this risk-oriented large-scale testing, Erasmus MC, together with the GGD, wants to investigate how the virus spreads and how we can effectively slow it down.
